Course Categories
In order for courses to be found in Moodle and for internal administration processes to continue to function, it is very important that the courses are in the correct course category. This is determined by the purpose of a course, and we distinguish between the following types:
-
Courses/Lectures:
Courses that are linked to a lecture should always be created in the corresponding, current semester of the course category so as not to make archiving unnecessarily difficult. -
Courses with general information:Non-semester-specific courses, such as safety training courses offered by institutes, working groups or information rooms, can be located in the Semesterunabhängig subcategory of the corresponding course category. They should include a short description that clarifies the target group and purpose of the course room. Please contact our support team to create such a course.
-
Course and user templates:
If you would like to create your own course template for later use, for example a course outline with the most important information and prepared course sections, please use the Kursvorlagen subcategory in the corresponding course category. -
Sandbox for test courses:
You can create courses for trying out and testing functions etc. in the Sandkasten.
Deleting Courses
You cannot delete courses in Moodle. Completed courses should not be deleted, but remain in the corresponding semester of the course category, as they are archived from there.
If you would like to create a course for test purposes, please use the Sandkasten course category for the test course. The courses in the sandbox are regularly deleted by us (and after appropriate notification).
Archiving of Courses
Courses/lectures are archived two years after the start of the relevant semester, including all examination data and the personal data of all participants.
Case study: A Mathematics I course takes place in the summer semester 2024, which begins on April 1, 2024. Archiving takes place accordingly on March 31, 2026.
Completed courses should not be moved to a new semester in order to adapt or continue to use them there; this would otherwise complicate the archiving process. It is possible to copy or import a completed course to another semester / course category without any problems. No personal or examination-relevant data is transferred in this way; this remains in the source course and is archived later.
Detailed information on the deletion and archivation cyclesin MIN-Moodle can be found on the Data retention summary page, which can always be accessed via the footer in MIN-Moodle.
